Bardic Theatre scoops at International Festival

Northern Ireland’s Bardic Theatre have scooped prestigious awards this past weekend at the closing ceremony of the second Martin McDonagh International Festival in Perm, Russia with their production The Cripple of Inishmaan by Martin McDonagh

Their production, directed by Sean Faloon, was awarded ‘Best acting ensemble’ and cast member Frances Jordan scooped ‘Best Supporting Actress’.

It’s a great testimony to the talent we have here at Bardic and indeed the Mid-Ulster area to come to Russia, a place where we’re virtually unknown, and return home with not just one but two awards” Sean said “The festival really appealed to us because it celebrated and appreciated McDonagh and his works. His plays really capture the essence of Irish life in days gone by and the themes he explores are clearly universally appealing to everyone based on how far theatre companies came from to perform the festival.

Bardic Theatre joined the annual festival by invitation from Teatr-U-Mosta and by accepting they became the first ever Irish company to take part in the festival which ran over a full week. The festival also featured theatre companies from Europe and the Middle East including Poland, Russia, Czech Republic, Iran, Serbia, Montenegro, Azerbaijan and Scotland.
